In\r\nfront, these were horizontally connected, by elaborately carved beams,\r\nof a scarlet hue, inserted into the vital wood; which, swelling out,\r\nand over lapping, firmly secured them. The beams supported the rafters,\r\ninclining from the rear; while over the aromatic grasses covering the\r\nroof, waved the tufted tops of the Palms, green capitals to their dusky\r\nshafts.\r\n\r\nThrough and through this vibrating verdure, bright birds flitted and\r\nsang; the scented and variegated thatch seemed a hanging-garden; and\r\nbetween it and the Palm tops, was leaf-hung an arbor in the air.\r\n\r\nWithout these columns, stood a second and third colonnade, forming the\r\nmost beautiful bowers; advancing through which, you fancied that the\r\npalace beyond must be chambered in a fountain, or frozen in a crystal.\r\nThree sparkling rivulets flowing from the heights were led across its\r\nsummit, through great trunks half buried in the thatch; and emptying\r\ninto a sculptured channel, running along the eaves, poured over in one\r\nwide sheet, plaited and transparent. Received into a basin beneath,\r\nthey were thence conducted down the vale.\r\n\r\nThe sides of the palace were hedged by Diomi bushes bearing a flower,\r\nfrom its perfume, called Lenora, or Sweet Breath; and within these\r\nodorous hedges, were heavy piles of mats, richly dyed and embroidered.\r\n\r\nHere lounging of a glowing noon, the plaited cascade playing, the\r\nverdure waving, and the birds melodious, it was hard to say, whether\r\nyou were an inmate of a garden in the glen, or a grotto in the sea.\r\n\r\nBut enough for the nonce, of the House of the Morning.
