Hence, Captain Beechy, in alluding to\r\nthe “Polynesian Researches” of Ellis, says that the author has\r\nimpressed his readers with a far more elevated idea of the moral\r\ncondition of the Tahitians, and the degree of civilization to which\r\nthey have attained, than they deserve; or, at least, than the facts\r\nwhich came under his observation authorized.
