At last the young man sunk off with his money, and looking\r\nout of the window, I saw him go round the corner so sharply that he\r\nknocked his elbow against the wall.\r\n\r\nI waited a little longer, and saw several more served; and having\r\nremarked that the hook-nosed men invariably fixed their own price upon\r\nevery thing, and if that was refused told the person to be off with\r\nhimself; I concluded that it would be of no use to try and get more\r\nfrom them than they had offered; especially when I saw that they had a\r\ngreat many fowling-pieces hanging up, and did not have particular\r\noccasion for mine; and more than that, they must be very well off and\r\nrich, to treat people so cavalierly.\r\n\r\nMy best plan then seemed to be to go right back to the curly-headed\r\npawnbroker, and take up with my first offer. But when I went back, the\r\ncurly-headed man was very busy about something else, and kept me\r\nwaiting a long time; at last I got a chance and told him I would take\r\nthe three dollars he had offered.\r\n\r\n“Ought to have taken it when you could get it,” he replied. “I won’t\r\ngive but two dollars and a half for it now.”\r\n\r\nIn vain I expostulated; he was not to be moved, so I pocketed the money\r\nand departed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r","title":"Chunk 3"},"relationships":[{"peer":"01KG8AJNGCKNDZNTV99M6T23FX","peer_type":"chapter","predicate":"in"},{"peer":"01KG89J1GP71YDJ60P8SRH97MF","peer_type":"file","predicate":"extractedFrom"},{"peer":"01KG89HMDZKNY753EZE1CJ8HZW","peer_type":"collection","predicate":"collection"},{"peer":"01KG8AKS697QVENMHVA1ZM277R","peer_type":"chunk","predicate":"prev"}],"ver":2,"created_at":"2026-01-30T20:48:15.561Z","ts":"2026-01-30T20:48:23.775Z","edited_by":{"method":"manual","user_id":"01KFF0H3YRP9ZSM033AM0QJ47H"}}
