For besides the\r\nbeauty of the vessel and the rare sculpture on it, and its being\r\nincomparably the biggest piece of amber known in those parts; besides\r\nall this, it was the very vase, he avouched--and with a kind of ardour\r\nstrange to note in one so much upon his turbaned dignity--the very vase,\r\nin sooth, that being on a bridal festival filled with roses in the\r\npalace of the old Shaz Gold-beak at Shiraz, had tempted their great\r\npoet, one Lugar-Lips, to a closer inspection, when tenderly dividing the\r\nflowers one from another, and noting the little anatomies congealed in\r\nthe amber, he was prompted to the inditing of certain verses; for which\r\ncause the vase thenceforth forever was inestimable. To which\r\nextravagance My Lord listened with his wonted civility, nay, and with a\r\nspecial graciousness, but for all that a bit sadly too, meseemed, and\r\nwould now again have swerved the discourse; but the Azem was beforehand,\r\nand bade the page bring him something from a silver-bound chest near by\r\nin an alcove. It was a vellum book, about the bigness of a prayer-book\r\nfor church-going, but very rich with jewelled clasps, and writ by some\r\nfamous scribe in the fair Persian text, and illuminated withal like unto\r\nthe great Popish parchment folios I have seen. And this book, surely of\r\ngreat cost, the Azem with his own hands right nobly did present to My\r\nLord, putting his finger on a certain page whereon were traced those\r\nverses aforesaid.\r\n\r\nBut, shortly after, some sherbet and sweetmeats being served, and the\r\nAzem’s own mules being at the garden gate, and, the more to honour us,\r\nwith gorgeous new trappings; our train withdrew in the same state as\r\nwhen we entered, that is, the one great captain-soldier leading, with a\r\nmighty truncheon in his hand, and his troop making a lane through which\r\nwe proceeded to the saddles, they the while salaaming and paying extreme\r\nobeisance to My Lord, which, indeed, was but their bounden duty, for he\r\nwas an Englishman and my noble master.\r\n\r","title":"Chunk 3"},"relationships":[{"peer":"01KG6G6QRQGZAPFS7SSHGJAN0X","peer_type":"article","predicate":"in"},{"peer":"01KG6FXSCNX5F3D880P3YP3PKR","peer_type":"file","predicate":"extractedFrom"},{"peer":"01KG2T49K0H5GDRB0G4YDTPG8H","peer_type":"collection","predicate":"collection"},{"peer":"01KG6G89JZNZ4A71HNDXQFN98Q","peer_type":"chunk","predicate":"prev"},{"peer":"01KG6G89JZVWQEWN0RY68JCVWE","peer_type":"chunk","predicate":"next"}],"ver":2,"created_at":"2026-01-30T03:48:21.723Z","ts":"2026-01-30T03:48:32.082Z","edited_by":{"method":"manual","user_id":"01KFF0H3YRP9ZSM033AM0QJ47H"}}
