I don’t know about that. Ain’t you\r\nand the widow good friends?”\r\n\r\n“Yes. Well, she’s ben good friends to me, anyway.”\r\n\r\n“All right, then. What do you want to be afraid for?”\r\n\r\nThis question was not entirely answered in Huck’s slow mind before he\r\nfound himself pushed, along with Tom, into Mrs. Douglas’ drawing-room.\r\nMr. Jones left the wagon near the door and followed.\r\n\r\nThe place was grandly lighted, and everybody that was of any consequence\r\nin the village was there. The Thatchers were there, the Harpers, the\r\nRogerses, Aunt Polly, Sid, Mary, the minister, the editor, and a great\r\nmany more, and all dressed in their best. The widow received the boys\r\nas heartily as any one could well receive two such looking beings. They\r\nwere covered with clay and candle-grease. Aunt Polly blushed crimson\r\nwith humiliation, and frowned and shook her head at Tom. Nobody suffered\r\nhalf as much as the two boys did, however. Mr. Jones said:\r\n\r\n“Tom wasn’t at home, yet, so I gave him up; but I stumbled on him and\r\nHuck right at my door, and so I just brought them along in a hurry.”\r\n\r\n“And you did just right,” said the widow. “Come with me, boys.”\r\n\r\nShe took them to a bedchamber and said:\r\n\r\n“Now wash and dress yourselves. Here are two new suits of\r\nclothes—shirts, socks, everything complete. They’re Huck’s—no, no\r\nthanks, Huck—Mr. Jones bought one and I the other. But they’ll fit both\r\nof you. Get into them. We’ll wait—come down when you are slicked up\r\nenough.”\r\n\r\nThen she left.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r","title":"Chunk 6"},"relationships":[{"peer":"01KG16PT6X6J46VEM6WDSV6QEQ","peer_label":"CHAPTER XXXIII","peer_type":"chapter","predicate":"in"},{"peer":"01KG0K71QZ8KK7RGEGSNTB5534","peer_label":"tom_sawyer.txt","peer_type":"file","predicate":"extractedFrom"},{"peer":"01KFXT0KM64XT6K8W52TDEE0YS","peer_label":"More Classics","peer_type":"collection","predicate":"collection"},{"peer":"01KG16VKCH6WB8R8SMCD09439P","peer_label":"Chunk 5","peer_type":"chunk","predicate":"prev"}],"ver":2,"created_at":"2026-01-28T02:27:56.607Z","ts":"2026-01-28T02:27:57.704Z","edited_by":{"method":"manual","user_id":"01KFF0H3YRP9ZSM033AM0QJ47H"}}
